Flexion distraction is a gentle, hands-on chiropractic technique that uses a specialized table to stretch and decompress the spine. It's one of several tools we use for disc herniations, low back pain, and sciatica - often alongside our motorized DOC decompression table.
How Flexion Distraction Works
The flexion distraction table has movable sections that the doctor controls. As you lie face down, the table gently flexes and distracts the lower spine in a rhythmic, controlled motion. This creates space between the vertebrae, reduces pressure inside the disc, and can help a herniated or bulging disc move away from an irritated nerve.
Who It Helps
Flexion distraction is well suited to patients with herniated or bulging discs, sciatica, low back pain from disc degeneration, and spinal stenosis. Because it's gentle and doesn't involve sudden movements, it's often appropriate for patients who find traditional adjustments too forceful.
